What a title loan costs in Maryland

Under Maryland's rate rules, borrowing $1,500 for 12 months costs $269.86 in interest or fees, so you repay $1,769.86 (31.7% APR). Your offer may differ.

Example title loan costs in Maryland
LoanTermInterest and feesTotal repaidAPR
$1,50012 months$269.86$1,769.8631.7%
$2,50012 months$336.79$2,836.7924%
$5,00012 months$673.58$5,673.5824%

Check whether the lender adds any fees: the written disclosure must show the full cost and the APR with every fee included.

What happens if you can't repay

If you fall behind, the lender can repossess your car. Read the default and notice terms in your contract before you sign. If the car is sold for less than you owe, whether the lender can collect more depends on Maryland law. Only if the lender resold the vehicle and complied with every requirement of Com. Law § 12-115, including the post-repossession notice; keeping the vehicle without resale discharges the debt (Md. Code, Com. Law § 12-115(k)(4), (l)).

If you think you will miss a payment, call the lender before the due date and ask what options it offers.

How to check a lender in Maryland

Title lenders in Maryland must be licensed (Maryland consumer lender licence (Office of Financial Regulation)). Search for the lender on the official license lookup before you sign. Lenditup does not check lender licenses for you (see how we verify).

Looking for a loan in Maryland?

The lenders in our network don't currently offer title loans in Maryland. If you need money, these options don't put your car at risk:

  • A personal loan. You can send one personal loan request; lenders in our network decide whether they lend in Maryland. Read how installment loans work first.
  • A credit union. Federal credit unions can offer small payday alternative loans with capped rates (NCUA rule). You usually need to be a member.
  • Your creditors. If a bill is the problem, ask the company for a payment plan or a later due date before you borrow.
