What we check, what we do not, and how you can check a lender yourself.
What we check on this website
- Legal and regulatory statements. Where our pages describe what a state's law allows, the statement comes from the statute or the state regulator, and we name the source next to it. A state is only described once its research has been reviewed and marked ready to publish.
- Loan amounts and product descriptions. Figures such as "up to $5,000" describe what you can request through our forms. They are not offers: amounts vary by lender, product and state.1
- Claims we will not make. We do not promise approval, specific rates or funding times, because only the lender decides those.
What we do not verify
Lenditup does not validate or investigate the licensing, certification or other qualifications of any third-party lender, and we do not review the terms a lender offers you. It is your responsibility to check the lender before you sign.4
How to check a lender in a few minutes
- Ask the lender for its full legal name, its address and its licence number in your state.
- Search for it on NMLS Consumer Access, or on your state financial regulator's licence lookup.
- Check for complaints with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and your state attorney general.
- Read the loan agreement in full: the APR, all fees, the payment schedule, and what happens if you pay late.
